The Green Party of New Jersey Condemns Gabbard’s Threats Toward Paterson’s Muslim Community
December 25th, 2025 – The Green Party of New Jersey condemns Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard’s threatening speech, which she delivered at a Turning Point USA event on 12/20/25. Her speech echoed post-9/11 Islamophobic propaganda that endangers both American Muslims and Muslims across the globe.
Gabbard specifically targeted the city of Paterson, NJ, during her hateful speech, making nonsensical claims about Sharia and Islamic Law. Her comments were not just Islamophobic and hateful: they constitute a direct threat to our Muslim communities in Paterson and throughout the country.
As National Security Director, Gabbard reiterated that she considered Islam to be the “greatest security threat” to the United States. She implied that such ‘security threats’ should not be treated with constitutional rights. Rather, by suggesting that Islam is somehow incompatible with the Bill of Rights, Gabbard seemed to indicate that such rights should be stripped from American Muslims. She stated, “When we talk about the threat of Islamism… there is no such thing as individual freedom or liberty.”
We are currently living under the shadow of a new National Security Presidential Memorandum known as NSPM-7, which directs violent state forces to target “anti-capitalist, anti-Christian, or anti-American groups.” The Director’s threats appear to name cities she believes to be justifiable targets for implementing NSPM-7.
The Green Party of New Jersey stands in solidarity with Paterson’s Muslim communities and Muslims across the country. We reject Gabbard’s targeting of our state and its people. As a new wave of Islamophobic propaganda continues to emerge from the ruling class, we will continue to support vulnerable communities and build the movement for eco-socialism in New Jersey.
