Be A Hero!!!! Save Lives!!

Recently, a GPNJ member suffered severe hemorrhages in his esophagus. In the space of less than 3 hours, he lost more than half the blood in his body. When his ambulance arrived at the hospital, he had to receive more than 5 units of blood transfusions. Without that blood, he would have died. After he received the 5th transfusion of blood, the hospital discovered that he needed still more blood.

But they were nearly out of the right blood type for his transfusion and he almost died.

Due to all the recent hurricanes and other ecological tragedies that have brought so much destruction to so many people in our country, blood supplies are at an all time low. The life giving blood that can save peoples'
lives is desperately needed right now, today!

Blood Supply in Crisis!

As of today, Wednesday, 29 September 1999, the supply of blood available to people anywhere in New Jersey is so low that the entire amount of blood for our state constitutes less than one day's supply.

Again, that means literally that in the event of any significant catastrophe that requires the consumption of blood from all hospitals and blood banks in New Jersey, the amount of all the blood in the state of New Jersey cannot meet the forseeable demand for blood for even one day. The need for blood in our state now is more than crucial. The lack of a supply of blood in New Jersey is literally a crisis.

The media in our state has failed to adequately address the crisis and publicize the desparate need for action. We are asking Green Party members and friends to perform both a public service by playing a part in organizing people to donate blood and in publicizing the need. Please cut and paste the information on this page into emails to your own lists, into letters to the editor of your local newspapers and community bulletins, into flyers to be circulated at your workplace and anywhere else you can post a flyer!
