Greens Bylaws
Approved 2/28/2002 The Middlesex-Somerset Greens will work for the
realization of the Ten Key Values of the Green Party of the United
StatesDiversity, Social Justice, Grassroots Democracy, Feminism,
Community, Decentralization, Environmentalism, Nonviolence,
Responsibility, Future Focusthrough electoral and citizen action
throughout Middlesex and Somerset Counties in New Jersey and, in concert
with other Green Party organizations, throughout New Jersey and the United
States and the world. The Middlesex-Somerset Greens intend to affiliate
with the Green Party of New Jersey. The membership of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall
consist of any individual concerned with Middlesex or Somerset County who
fulfills the current membership rules.
Members who donate $25 per year shall be enrolled as members of the
Green Party of New Jersey. Membership shall entitle the member to vote in
election of officers and to vote at any in-person regular meeting of the
Middlesex-Somerset Greens on any matter of policy or operation. The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall elect a
Chairperson, a Vice-chair, a Secretary, a Treasurer.
No person shall hold more than one of these offices at any one
time. If the chair cannot
complete his or her term of office, the Vice-chair will become
Chairperson, vacating the Vice-chair office.
If a vacancy occurs, an election to fill that vacancy will be held
at the next regular meeting of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens. The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall also elect a
representative to the Green Council from both Middlesex and Somerset
counties. This representative
may be, but is not required to be, one of the above-mentioned officers.
The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall also elect representatives to
each of the standing committees of the Green Party of New
JerseyMembership, Finance, Communications and Policy, as well as to the
permanent Diversity Committee. Officers will be elected at a regular meeting of the
Middlesex-Somerset Greens at least once in each calendar year.
Elections will held according to approved rules for electing
officers. Proposed rules for
the election of officers or amendments to the proposed rules for election
of officers will be published to the full membership at least 30 days in
advance of the meeting during which the rules are approved or amended. Any 4 members of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens can
petition for an election of officers 45 days in advance of a regular
meeting during which the election will be held. The Middlesex-Somerset Greens will meet regularly.
Meetings will be announced at the preceding meeting.
Every effort will be taken to establish and publish a meeting
schedule including location for the succeeding 12 months. Decision-making will use the consensus model, with a
simple majority vote resolving any failure to achieve consensus. |
