Middlesex-Somerset Greens

Bylaws – Approved 2/28/2002

Mission

The Middlesex-Somerset Greens will work for the realization of the Ten Key Values of the Green Party of the United States—Diversity, Social Justice, Grassroots Democracy, Feminism, Community, Decentralization, Environmentalism, Nonviolence, Responsibility, Future Focus—through electoral and citizen action throughout Middlesex and Somerset Counties in New Jersey and, in concert with other Green Party organizations, throughout New Jersey and the United States and the world.

The Middlesex-Somerset Greens intend to affiliate with the Green Party of New Jersey.

Organization

Membership

The membership of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall consist of any individual concerned with Middlesex or Somerset County who fulfills the current membership rules.  Members who donate $25 per year shall be enrolled as members of the Green Party of New Jersey.

Membership shall entitle the member to vote in election of officers and to vote at any in-person regular meeting of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens on any matter of policy or operation.

Officers

The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall elect a Chairperson, a Vice-chair, a Secretary, a Treasurer.  No person shall hold more than one of these offices at any one time.  If the chair cannot complete his or her term of office, the Vice-chair will become Chairperson, vacating the Vice-chair office.  If a vacancy occurs, an election to fill that vacancy will be held at the next regular meeting of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens.

The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall also elect a representative to the Green Council from both Middlesex and Somerset counties.  This representative may be, but is not required to be, one of the above-mentioned officers.  The Middlesex-Somerset Greens shall also elect representatives to each of the standing committees of the Green Party of New Jersey—Membership, Finance, Communications and Policy, as well as to the permanent Diversity Committee.

Election of Officers

Officers will be elected at a regular meeting of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens at least once in each calendar year.  Elections will held according to approved rules for electing officers.  Proposed rules for the election of officers or amendments to the proposed rules for election of officers will be published to the full membership at least 30 days in advance of the meeting during which the rules are approved or amended.

Any 4 members of the Middlesex-Somerset Greens can petition for an election of officers 45 days in advance of a regular meeting during which the election will be held.

Regular Meetings

The Middlesex-Somerset Greens will meet regularly.  Meetings will be announced at the preceding meeting.  Every effort will be taken to establish and publish a meeting schedule including location for the succeeding 12 months.

Decision-Making Process

Decision-making will use the consensus model, with a simple majority vote resolving any failure to achieve consensus.
