The Green Party of New Jersey
Updated May 08, 2008
Fifth Annual Convention of the Green Party of NJ

"Organizing to Grow"
Sunday, September 23, 2001

The Green Party of New Jersey's (GPNJ's) 5th annual Convention was held on Sunday, September 23, from 9:00AM to 5:00 PM at the Labor Education Center on Ryders Lane in New Brunswick.  It was a particularly exciting convention, as GPNJ focuses on the New Jersey Green Campaign 2001 and sets its course for 2002!

In addition to our annual business meeting and election of officers, we had a great line-up of speakers and workshops.  The keynote address was presented by noted peace activist David Delenger.  Click here for the text of David's talk.  We had a workshop conducted by  IRV activist Steve Ma.  We be heard from many of our 2001 candidates -- including our gubernatorial candidate, Jerry Coleman, our "slate" of candidates from Atlantic County and our local candidates in Princeton.

This year we focused on organizing within specific constituencies for growth.

The basic program was as follows:

8 - 9 AM

9 - 11 AM

11 AM - noon

Introduction of Green Party Candidates for the Year 2001

Convention Credentials

You must be a paid up GPNJ member in order to vote at the annual convention.  Annual dues are $25 for regular dues, $10 for students and low income.  Renewals may be paid at the door.  Active Greens may apply to their county coordinator for a waiver of dues.

The Rutgers Labor Education Center is located at the corner of Ryders Lane and Clifton Avenue in New Brunswick. Take the NJ Turnpike to exit 9; then Route 18 North (less than a mile) to Route 1 South. Proceed slowly as you get onto Route 1 South, because you want to make an IMMEDIATE right turn into the Sears parking lot. At the very back-left corner of the Sears parking lot there is an outlet road that leads directly toward the Labor Education Center parking lot (make a quick left after exiting the Sears parking lot).

The annual Convention of the Green Party of New Jersey is the one time each year Greens from all over the state get together.  Elections for officers for the upcoming year are held at the convention, as are votes for amendments to the bylaws which establish the procedures for how we do things.  That's the serious business!

Check out the proposals which were submitted for discussion and votes at the convention!
