Jane is a Green because she believes that the 10 Key Values of the Green Party are the best hope for the future of our world, our country and all the generations to come. Ecological Wisdom The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat impacts everyone's health, our quality of life and, ultimately, our economy. While the wealthy can avoid the consequences of ecological carelessness in the short term by buying air filters and bottled water and organically produced gourmet food, these are stopgap measures in a system being pushed to total failure. Social Justice The greatest strength of our nation, our state and our society is its diversity. We are only as strong and healthy as a society as our least-privileged members are. Everyone should have physical safety, an excellent and relevant education, decent and healthy food and housing and medical care, as well as job opportunities paying a living (not a minimum) wage. Grassroots Democracy Political discourse in this country is being dominated by whoever has the most money to buy media time. The individual voters have lost their voices. It is time to demand those voices back with Clean Money Campaign Reform and fair access to the airwaves for candidates. Nonviolence Government at all levels should be fostering a culture of non-violent conflict resolution rather than of escalating armed confrontation. This effects everything from school curricula to police training and missions to international relations. tom: 0">Decentralization Communities and regions have different needs and different cultures. Our governmental initiatives and structures should accommodate those differences while assuring basic standards of service and fairness. Community-Based Economics Community-based economics places the economic engine in the hands of individuals and their communities, rather than placing all the control in the hands of the isolated and very wealthy who control major corporations and who are subsidized by their "bought and paid for" government at all levels. Isn't silly to be buying lettuce trucked from California in August in "The Garden State"? Feminism Women have made tremendous strides in equal education and equal employment in the past 30 years. However, employer support for families--ranging from family leave to health care benefits to reasonable work days and vacations--has actually diminished. At the same time, the right to make reproductive choices is under unrelenting attack and must be protected and expanded through education and availability measures. Respect for Diversity
