Jeff Gorman for
Princeton Twp. Committee

www.iloveprinceton.org

My name is Jeff Gorman, and I am running for Princeton Township Committee.  I have been a Princeton homeowner and a local merchant since 1996.  My family, including my three children actively participates in everything our community has to offer.  Accordingly, I have a vested interest in how our town is run, the decisions that are made and a strong sense of responsibility to do what is best for Princeton.

I received my degree from the University At Buffalo in 1989.  I was a computer programmer for a small software company in Matawan between 1989 and 1996.  In 1996, my family started our own computer company here in Princeton.

In 1992, while living in New Brunswick, I ran for Congress in the sixth district against Frank Pallone, the incumbent.  While I did not win, I learned how difficult it is to defeat an incumbent, no matter how that person has met the responsibilities of public office.  Here in Princeton, I believe it is time for change in our Township Committee.  I believe our Committee needs to make decisions with a mind towards fiscal and environmental responsibility.  Princeton is a beautiful place to live with an extremely diverse population.  We are lucky to have a town like this and we must diligently make every effort to keep it that way.  To maintain the diversity of our town, we must keep our property taxes as low as possible while still providing the services we need.  The best way to do this is to simply not waste money.  There are cheaper ways to prevent people/ deer collisions than killing the deer.  There are cheaper ways to house our Town’s government than to build a giant building with many cost overruns.  Fiscal responsibility is a hallmark of good government, and I intend to ensure that that is a premise of our Township Committee.

Environmental responsibility is as important as fiscal responsibility for our town.  Princeton is a beautiful place, and keeping it that way is everybody’s responsibility, especially our Township Committee’s.  Many environmentally sound policies would also be fiscally sound.  For instance, on my street we have four different garbage companies.  This amounts to two trucks every day on our street.  These trucks each stop at only a few houses and skip the rest.  They do however, drive the entire length of our street, breaking down the roads and spitting pollution into our air.  This situation is representative of every street in our Princeton.  Every one of us has to pay the extra road maintenance and breathe the pollution caused by these trucks.  Surely our Township Committee can enact measures to reduce the pollution and save us some money in road repair.  This is just one of the issues I will, if elected take positive action on to improve our Princeton and save us money at the same time.

Thank your for taking the time to read this and I look forward to working together with you after election day.  Don’t forget to vote.
