Trenton:

The executive committee of The Green Party of New Jersey voted unanimously to support the current nationwide campaign for an immediate halt to  executions in our country.

Equal Justice USA, a project of the Maryland based Quixote Center, has  recently issued a call for a moratorium on capital punishment based on a  Government Accounting Office researched report which indicates a pattern  of racial disparities in capital cases.  Further, the American Bar Association  has said to date that no state has met all of the ABA's policies for administration  of the death penalty, including standards for representation for indigent defendants.

Recently Equal Justice ran a full-page New York Times ad signed by members of  Congress, wrongly convicted former Death Row Prisoners and ninety two family members of murder victims, all calling for a review of the present policy of  executions in the USA.  While some moratorium advocates support the death penalty and others oppose  it, all agree with the American Bar Association conclusion: "fundamental due process is lacking in capital cases."
